The Iomega StorCenter ix2 Cloud Edition is a good choice for home network use. Iomega have done their very best to simplify the installation and use of this product. However, it may be a bit daunting for those who have no background in IT. A modest understanding of file systems and networking would be useful.

If you have a simple home system, the box will operate in virtually a plug and play mode. Just plug in your StorCenter power cord to its UPS, the provided USB cable to the UPS, the network cable to your router and press the on button. It will boot up retrieve an IP address, and be ready for use. The supplied software will find the device and help you set up additional "drives" so that you can access it.

If you have a more complicated system, you will likely have problems if you are set up differently. My system is a little different so I had to manually assign and address, but that's also pretty easy to do if you know what you are doing.

The system is too slow for office use, but is great for the price and fills my needs to back everything up and share files. It acts as a photo, video, and music server for the household and does this very well.

I also back up this system to a USB attached 2TB WD MyBook, so I never have to worry any more about losing important data.

To date, everything has worked flawlessly. Even tried out the Cloud feature. It was then that I discovered that anyone on your cloud will have access to ALL shared folders on your Workgroup! Be sure you understand how the security works before liberating files in your Cloud. I don't plan on using the Cloud feature much so it doesn't matter much to me but it might matter to those who want to do a lot of sharing over the internet.

All in all, I like this little box. For the price it's great. It was recommended to my by a friend who owns two earlier models. And his does the same as mine. It sits there and rumbles when files are accessed, and otherwise just sits there with it's little lights on.
